World Food Program is June's On The Rise Non-profit Partner

Please join us in congratulating WorldFoodProgram as YouTube’s featured “On The Rise” non-profit partner for June! Thanks to your support and the strength of of their channel optimization, this organization is featured in the “Spotlight” section of our homepage today.

The World Food Programme has been in existence since 1963, when it was established as a multilateral food aid program by the Food and Agricultural Organization Conference and the United Nations. Over the last 40+ years, the organization has worked tirelessly to fight hunger and poverty globally, with the ultimate goal of eliminating the need for food aid. Their channel features a variety of video content that describes the magnitude of the global hunger problem, highlights specific issues and emergencies, demonstrates the impact of the WPF’s initiatives, and identifies opportunities for supporters to take action to assist the organization’s mission.

Here are a few words from the WPF organization:
Thanks to everyone who voted for us, and especially to YouTube, for this incredibly cool opportunity. At the World Food Programme, we believe that hunger is the world's greatest solvable problem. It affects nearly a billion people worldwide and yet we have the means to solve it. WFP is the world's largest humanitarian aid agency on the front lines of hunger. When we're not saving lives in emergencies, we're helping families get back on their feet. When we're not serving meals in schools, we're protecting mothers and children from malnutrition. Subscribe to our YouTube channel and find out what it's like to drive across the Sahara, ride a yak through the Himalayas or fly a helicopter in South Sudan as we deliver food assistance to some of the most dangerous and remote places on Earth. We’ll see you there.

Help these non-profit “On The Rise” nominees reach the homepage

Each month, we identify four YouTube partners whose channels have recently experienced significant growth but haven’t yet reached the 100,000 subscriber count for our On The Rise program. This month’s featured partners still have a ways to go to hit that mark, but we’re excited about the impact they’ve had on - and beyond - YouTube. Each of our June nominees represents a non-profit organization fighting for an important cause: strengthening art knowledge and creative thinking, finding a cure for cancer, preventing crisis and suicide among LGBTQ youth, and ending world hunger.

And these partners could use your help in a few different ways! As you learn more about these organizations, you can help spread awareness about the causes they represent so they can have an even greater impact. You can also help them grow their YouTube presence, starting with the opportunity for one of these partners to be featured on the YouTube homepage. Check out their videos below and vote for your favorite in the top right corner of this blog. In addition to your votes, each channel will be evaluated on criteria such as viewer engagement and channel optimization techniques to decide which partner will be featured on the homepage, Google+, Facebook and Twitter at the end of the month.

In past months past on the rise nominees, partners like Strskillschool and jakatak69 have gained many subscribers thanks to your support. The poll will be open until June 12th at 5pm PT, so don’t forget to vote for your favorite channel. Check back to see who secured the homepage feature on June 25th.

Jakatak69 is May’s On The Rise YouTube partner

Congratulations to Jack Scalfani of Jakatak69! Jack is YouTube’s featured “On The Rise” partner for May and takes the stage in the “Spotlight” section of our homepage today.

Jack is just a regular guy who fell into his cooking career without any formal training. He worked for awhile as a DJ for a radio station, after which he decided to move into talent management. Among his clients was a chef who eventually moved on and left Jack with a couple hundred pounds of spices. Jack decided to make his own barbeque sauce from what he had, and in 2000 launched “The Best BBQ Sauce You’ll Ever Taste.” He started producing simple “How To” videos on YouTube to promote his sauce. Since then, he’s expanded into easy-to-make recipes, cooking tips, and honest product reviews. Check out his channel to see what he thinks about the Big Top Cupcake or learn how to make Lazy Man’s Pulled Pork Sandwiches and Red Lobster Cheddar Biscuits.

Here are a few words from Jack:
I want to first say thanks to YouTube... I am grateful for all the tools you have provided to help me grow my channel to what it is today. There are training videos, playbook videos, creator hangouts, city wide meetups, partnership support, video editing tools, bulletin systems to reach all your subscribers in just one click and so much more. The best part is that all of these YouTube tools are free. I am excited to be apart of a food category that is just about to explode on YouTube. You have inspired me to reach out and collaborate with other YouTube artists. Working together is more important than you think. So reach out to someone, build good content and broadcast yourself. And always remember YouTube is the new TV. God Bless and please subscribe to the COOKING WITH JACK SHOW

Our May 2012 nominees have each tailored their channel to provide instruction to their viewers, so you can learn how to play blues guitar, about astronomy concepts, how to cook new recipes, or about gardening and sustainable living.

And not only can you learn from these partners, but you can help them grow their YouTube presence, starting with the opportunity for one of these partners to be featured on the YouTube homepage. Check out the videos below and vote for your favorite in the top right corner of this blog. In addition to your votes, each channel will be evaluated (by YouTube) on criteria such as viewer engagement and channel optimization techniques to decide which partner will be featured on the homepage, Google+, Facebook and Twitter at the end of the month.

STRskillSchool is April’s YouTube Partner On The Rise!

Please join us in congratulating Steve Roberts from STRskillSchool! He is YouTube’s “On The Rise” spotlight partner for April and is featured today on the YouTube homepage.

Based in Suffolk, England, Steve has 14 years of coaching experience in a variety of sports, but is most passionate about soccer (football). He runs a sports coaching company along with Senior Coach Tommy Marsden, and brings coaching advice and knowledge of the sport to millions of people across the world via his YouTube channel. Check out Steve’s instruction for the Ronaldinho/Neymar step over, knuckle balls and free kicks, how to do a hard flick over your head!

Here are a few words from the Steve:
My name is Steve Roberts and I am a UEFA qualified football coach. STRskillSchool is me and pretty much all the videos are filmed, edited and performed by myself and I am self taught in film making. I have loved football (soccer!) from a very young age. I always dreamt of being a Pro Footballer but sadly didn't make it. Two years ago I thought I would make tutorials to share with players, as the content I found was incorrect or frustrating to watch. I now have over 100 videos teaching many parts of the game, which players, coaches and parents can enjoy. I have been so overwhelmed from the worldwide support shown on my Youtube channel. I would like to thank everyone who has supported me in the past and thank you those who rallied round to help with the voting. My fans are the people who keep me motivated to create new fresh content. There are lots of new videos to come from me, so please subscribe and see what the future has to offer! Thanks again!

AnyoneButMeWebSeries is March’s YouTube partner On The Rise

Congratulations to AnyoneButMeWebSeries! The award-winning web series is our featured “On The Rise” partner for March and takes the stage in the “Spotlight” section of the YouTube homepage today.

Shot on location in NYC and LA and written and produced by Susan Miller and Tina Cesa Ward, Anyone But Me centers around gay, straight and ethnically diverse teenagers who deal with all-too-common questions about identity and modern relationships. Throughout the series, viewers may identify with the emotional struggles of moving, relationship changes and being true to yourself. The third and final season just wrapped, and you can watch the complete series on their YouTube channel. Check out the video below for more background on the series and its history:

Here are a few words from the show’s executives, Tina and Susan:
We love making drama. And we love making it on the web. It’s as if the gods gave us a piece of this huge creative territory and said “Own it. Plant weird, wonderful new things. Do what you want here.” As creators, we couldn’t ask for more. Anyone But Me is a rare thing in the indie television world. For one thing, we don’t have zombies. (Alas!) We get off on writing about real humans and their relationships. Anyone But Me launched in 2008. After our second season, we had a never been done before Webathon, and the fans funded us for Season 3. So many people had our back. We got press in Fast Company. Salon.com, The LA Times, Tubefilter, AfterEllen. And we collected a lot of cool awards along the way. But it’s thanks to the passion of our fans that we’re here! We’re grateful to YouTube for this honor and the opportunity to connect with people we hope will become new fans. (Oh, and if you subscribe to our channel you not only get 26 episodes of our show & some fun video extras, we also link you to other shows we like. What could be bad about that?)

Meet marydoodles, our February YouTube Partner On The Rise

This year’s not-so-short month of February brought us lots of talented YouTube Partners as part of our monthly "On The Rise" program, and in the end, marydoodles, was the partner featured on today's YouTube homepage.

Mary Gutfleisch came to Los Angeles by way of Minnesota and Chicago, and now spends her days making props and costumes for Epic Rap Battles of History. But her true passion is making pictures - her work spans techniques such as watercolor painting, pen and ink, and chalk drawings. And the subjects of Mary’s work are just as varied: she’s covered dragons, teddy bears, zombie-style self portraits, and she’s even captured the elusive narwhal.

Here are a few words from Mary:
First off, I’d love to give a big shout out to every single teacher who caught me drawing in their class but never made me stop. It was very rude of me. I apologize. I’ve always loved creating art and I LOVE movies and making videos! So to be able to combine the two...it feels like the best Christmas ever and it’s not even Christmas. And the most amazing thing is that this is all supported by many many many individuals (like yourself) who watch. So thank YOU! And thanks to the folks at YouTube for recognizing my channel and to all my friends over at Epic Rap Battles of History for letting me ride your coattails (I will dry clean your coat). It’s awesome to be able to connect with other artists and fans alike and I hope to inspire you as much as you’ve inspired me. Art is more accessible now than ever before and I feel lucky to be able to sharedji/kjmOMG! I JUST SPILLED HOT TEA ALL OVER MY ARM!!!
